However, in most applications, this model was applied as a one-to-one replacement for hydrology models without adapting or rethinking the experimental setup. We find that threshold processes in the runoff generation lead to such a relatively high occurrence probability of extremes. Our results can help to improve the estimation of the occurrence probability of extreme floods.

In this study, we design a way to predict, 5–6 months in advance, how severe the dry season will be in a rural watershed in northern California.
