Short summary
Using 21.5 years of observations from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment and its Follow-On mission, together with the Global Gravity-based Groundwater Product, we quantify groundwater storage change at continental and global scales. Significant losses are concentrated in Asia, while gains in Africa partly offset them globally. Accounting for persistent hydrological variability helps separate long-term change from shorter-term fluctuations.
