Suspended-sand fluxes in rivers vary with time and space, complicating their measurement. The proposed method captures the vertical and lateral variations of suspended-sand concentration throughout a river cross-section. It merges water samples taken at various positions throughout the cross-section with high-resolution acoustic velocity measurements. This is the first method that includes a fully applicable uncertainty estimation; it can easily be applied to any other study sites.

This study explores how to improve models predicting water flow in southern Vietnam's Saigon and Dongnai rivers, where data are scarce. By testing three different methods to adjust the river model using river water level and river discharge measurements, we found ways of better predicting river behavior. These findings can help manage water resources more effectively and aid in decision-making for flood protection and environmental conservation.

As the adverse impacts of hydrological extremes increase in many regions of the world, a better understanding of the drivers of changes in risk and impacts is essential for effective flood and drought risk management. We present a dataset containing data of paired events, i.e. two floods or two droughts that occurred in the same area. The dataset enables comparative analyses and allows detailed context-specific assessments. Additionally, it supports the testing of socio-hydrological models.

This study is the first approximation of regional rainfall thresholds for shallow landslide occurrence in Peru. This research was generated from a gridded precipitation data and landslide inventory. The analysis showed that the threshold based on the combination of mean daily intensity–duration variables gives the best results for separating rainfall events that generate landslides. Through this work the potential of thresholds for landslide monitoring at the regional scale is demonstrated.

Short summary
The Ucayali River is the major Andean conveyor of sediment to the Amazon. By combining field measurements, satellite data and modelling over decades, we show that floodplains trap 36% of this sediment while recycling 22% back into the river during flood recession. During high waters, flooding reduces the river's capacity to carry sand, capturing 14% at peak discharge. These findings show that floodplains act as dynamic regulators of sediment transport in large tropical rivers.
